Runsell Lane leading
from Hopping Jacks Lane to Runsell Green. This lane is single
track but it is still used by locals as a way of getting to
a number of housing estates without going further up the
main road. There are passing places every so often.
The A414 is the main road from Maldon
to Hertford. It has over 25,000 vehicles per 24 hour
period on it. It effectively cuts the Village into two.
At the Ministry of Transport Inquiry in 1995 the proposal
for a Danbury Bypass was quashed in favour of the upgrade of
the B1019 between Maldon and Hatfield Peverel. Unfortunately
the upgrade of the A12 at Hatfield Peverel was cancelled
by the then Government which in turn made the B1019 upgrade
ineffective - project was then cancelled to save money.
The A414 looking
towards The Griffin public house. It has been a
public house since 1744. At the turn of the century
this road was called The Street; now called Main Road.
Note the Ramblers coming
out of the path to Lingwood Common, National Trust land.
This hill defeats articulated lorries when there is snow
and ice on the road.
The lay-by is planted with Daffodils by the Danbury Society.
The A414 further towards Danbury. This is outside
the newly provided Co-op store. The Pedestrian Crossing
provides a welcome break in the traffic.

We are now on the other side of Danbury by the newly
provided Tesco Mini-Store and the Esso petrol station.
As a condition of gaining Planning Permission, Tesco
paid for a Pelican Crossing which is now provided (April
2002) but not yet operational. Again, this will break
up the constant traffic flow.
It is also intended to calm the through traffic from Maldon
and the Dengie such that they will go somewhere else.
This principle is having some effect as the Maldon
District Access Study has suggested (Essex Chronicle
report May 24, 2002) that the Maldon to Hatfield Peverel,
B1019 should be upgraded to a multi modal link with bus
and cycle lanes.
The cross hatched centre to the road is used by motor
cylists as their speed way through the traffic!.

This is designed to give residents of Belvedere
access to Tesco Mini-Store and to calm through traffic.

area infront of the new Pelican Crossing. This surface is
required to prevent skidding even though it is in a 30mph area.
Some people feel that this sort of coloured area brings Urban
living into the Rural setting.

Danbury is a pleasant Village with many trees and shrubs.

This road is used as a rat-run in the early mornings and at
going home time to miss the hold-ups on the A414. It is a
30 mph area.
